Ascot was a racing game devised and published by Jaques from around 1894. The small horses are attached by a thread to a winding mechanism within the box. A gear system would ensure different horses would win each time. They would be pulled out to a starting point, facing back towards the box and the race to the finish would begin! There were various designs and copies of this game made and they some had a racing mat to place under the horses and possible different ways to reel in the race horses.
