Fireside Fun

Fireside Fun was one of twelve card games published by David Ogilvy under the Ogilvy’s series of shilling games. Ogilvy’s series of board and card games (active 1841-1879) was intended for the instruction and amusement of young people during the Victorian era. Fireside Fun is described as a comic game of four suits representing England, France, Germany and Italy. All have emblems and are question and answer cards. The emblems must match or the responses will not, the cause of much hilarity. When David Ogilvy retired from business in 1878, it continued to be published by John Jaques & Son. This games dates from 1869 and the collection holds two packs, one is an incomplete set with 50 cards, the other is complete with 52 cards plus the rules. The complete set also has the original box with a leaflet mentioning that this is No.4 of Ogilvy’s One Shilling Games.
