French for Fun, a sort of visual phrase book, was first published as an instructive and amusing pack of cards by John Jaques & Son Ltd in the 1930s. Each phrase is spread over four cards which complete a set. The illustrations make the process of practising French vocabulary more fun whilst playing a game. Players learn words in French whilst exchanging cards and trying to assemble a complete phrase. It is described as being played in much the same manner as Happy Families, as players memorise who holds what and play to collect complete sets. There is a strict instruction that no English can be spoken while play is underway! There are several editions of this game, some have a different number of cards and different illustrations, back design or card size. This pack has two sets, (Part 1 and 2) and the cards, 60 in total, are in a dark blue slide top box which also includes the rules leaflet.
