Music Loto

Music Loto is one game in a series of Loto games which Jaques created and published from 1860 onwards. The game name, Loto, first appeared on their business card of 1814. Lotto has generally been a numbers game of chance played socially for small prizes or for huge prizes as with the National Lottery. Its origins can be traced back 2000 years to the Han Dynasty in China. In the early 20th Century, it achieved widespread success as Bingo where numbers are drawn randomly from a bag and players mark them off numbers on a card. Jaques version of Loto has many variations and shows their ingenuity in creating games on a theme. Music Loto was developed around 1870 and players had to match musical notes or signs taken from sheet music. Some knowledge of musical notation was needed for this game as players had to recognise and spot the correct musical note or sign and then repeat their answers correctly at the end but even for those with little understanding the matching and repeating would be enough to learn from the game.
