The Rival Squadrons was published in 1865. Unfortunately, this example has no
board, but the idea was for players in two teams of equal numbers
to attempt to get their ships into the rival’s port. Various rules allowed
ships to be moved according to the throw of the dice. Ships could take other
ships if close enough, had to avoid storms and lines of fire, and also had the
hazard of crossing the equator.
