The Realm is a card game by Jaques which was probably published before 1880. The game is one based on the voting rules of the House of lords and House of Commons. In the Commons cards depict 4 Baronets, 8 Knights and 12 Esquires each with 8 votes, 4 votes and 2 votes respectively. once a player has succeeded in having their Bill passed in the Commons they needs to call on the upper house representatives to vote next. Cards depicting 2 Dukes, (12 votes), 4 Marquises (10 votes), 5 Earls, (8 votes), 6 Viscounts (6 votes) and 7 Barons (4 votes) are all required to help the winner pass their Bill. There is also one card, which is The Crown and the holder of this card begins the game. Like many games from this period there are pools to collect the stakes agreed upon, whether in currency or just counters is not always clear but this adds an element of betting to the game. There is one complete set in the collection which contains 49 cards with the rules and leaflets.
