Victoria

Victoria was a card game based on collecting matching pairs, with rules. It was also called The Rose, Thistle and Shamrock and had four emblems to represent Scotland, England, Ireland and Wales. A matching game, any number could play this ‘mirthful game’. The usual pool of counters is included and there are four Royal Cards which, when turned up must be kept until the next one turns up whereupon the first is collected by the second player and so on until one person holds all four. It was originally issued in David Ogilvy’s series of One Shilling Games from around 1870. It was then issued by Jaques after David Ogilvy retired. The collection has one pack of the game with 51 cards.
