Wheeling

Wheeling was another innovative game by Jaques which was designed to capitalise on the mania for cycling from the 1870 onwards. The game represents a race from London to the Anchor’s Inn at Ripley. Various sources suggest that the Anchor Inn, run by two sisters, encouraged cyclists as the distance was an ideal one from London to ride out, have tea and return. The road too was a good one, ideal for cyclists and became known as the Blue Riband until increasing traffic made it less suitable. Jaques, as ever, appealed to the latest trends in designing this game and allowed their customers to bring their cycling excitement indoors.
