Ascot or the New Racing Game was published around 1894. This game featured a very unique method of determining the winner of the race. The game itself was a large wooden box. It had up to 8 horses attached to the box with wires. A hand crank on the side of the box attached to the horses by a variety of gears was turned resulting in a different horse winning the race. Players bet on which horse would win the race. This complete set includes the mahogany box with 8 metal jockeys on horses, each connected to a brass spindle by black threads. 8 holes on the side of the box through which the black thread attaches to the spindle inside. A wooden lid with a knob. A mechanical motor with a key. There is a horse racing illustration on the label. ‘By letters patent/makers/Jaques & son, London’ printed in top left corner. Box includes the original revised rules leaflet.
