Ascot or the New Racing Game was published around 1894. This game featured a very unique method of determining the winner of the race. The game itself was a large wooden box. It had up to 8 horses attached to the box with wires. A hand crank on the side of the box attached to the horses by a variety of gears was turned resulting in a different horse winning the race. Players bet on which horse would win the race. This complete set includes the mahogany box with 6 metal jockeys on horses, each connected to a brass spindle by black threads. Holes on the side of the box through which the black thread attaches to the spindle inside. There is abone handle on the side of the box. The label on the lid, ‘by letters patent’ printed in bottom right.
