Gobang was a popular game produced by Jaques from 1878. Gobang is known by other names and is Japanese in origin and very old. The players have a designated number and colour of pieces and must attempt to get 5 in a row on the board. It was originally played with only black and white pieces but there are variations on the number and colour of pieces and number of squares on the board. Jaques version invited up to 4 players with a 20×20 place board. The counters are placed on the points the squares meet and not in the actual square itself.
