London Post

The Jaques card game, London Post, was published around 1880, and it is based around the London postal districts and the distinctive public buildings within the different districts. The description reads: “64 cards with beautiful colour illustrations of the chief buildings of the great city, impressing on the mind the Postal Districts in which they are situated”. There are 64 cards which include 55 picture cards, 8 districts and one key card. This key card is left upwards on the table and the rest are shuffled and dealt out. Players examine their cards and the game commences by players requesting areas in order to complete districts based on what they initially hold in their hand. The winner is the one who has completed the greatest number of districts. As the number of locations in each district varies from 2 to 15 this means that collecting all the cards needed can take some time. All the picture cards include small nuggets of information on the locations, architectural or historical. There are three complete packs within the collection and while one set has no box and two sets have boxes they all contain 64 cards with the rules.
