Jaques created this arithmetical game, Pumblechook, for children to to aid learning and for any players to enhance their mental arithmetic and speed of response. The Green cards are all arithmetical questions and are separated from the Pink cards, which hold the answers. The green cards are scattered, face down, on the table while the Pink cards are dealt out, and arranged by the player so they can see them all easily. When a player calls out a sum the others must respond if they have the correct answer card. They collect these cards, a trick, and the next player continues. A pool is established to create a stake and wrong answers require a forfeit to be paid and the winners take a reward from the pool. This example of the game dates from 1880 and the collection has one pack with 86 cards – there can be 90 cards in some versions. 1 pack 86 cards.
